Reason #1 why your wife got fat and why she doesn’t bother to try losing the weight or keeps losing ten pounds then gaining back twenty in a never ending cycle that annoys you so much you’re thinking about divorcing her: She already has too many commitments and demands on her time and emotional energy.

But seriously, the commitment to exercise regularly and watch what you eat is hard even for those who do it. I know. Through my teens, twenties and early thirties I practically starved myself to stay thin and exercised 2 – 4 hours per day on an empty stomach. I had no other purpose in life except to be thin. Every waking moment was spent doing something related to staying skinny, even if all that was being done was actively fighting hunger.
You might think it comes naturally to skinny women to be skinny and some will insist it does because we don’t really want people to know it doesn’t come easily and naturally to us; but only a very small number of the skinny women you see out there are able to stay skinny without having to deprive themselves of food.
Your wife probably knows a thing or two about how difficult it is to defy nature. She’s probably been there herself, years of eating salads when she’d rather eat a burger, working out for hours when she’d rather just sit back with her feet up and relax. Not even skinny women enjoy what skinny women do to stay skinny. If we could eat whatever we wanted to eat and never gain an ounce we wouldn’t order the salad, unless we just needed to prove how unique and special we are because we think someone gives a damn.
So yeah, this is not to say you should just accept that your formerly skinny wife is now fat, but you might want to try to be a little bit more understanding if she’s having a hard time getting to the point of caring enough that she’s become overweight or obese to start watching what she eats and getting enough exercise to take the extra weight off.
