Dalia Dippolito, the Florida woman who tried to hire a hitman to kill her husband in 2009 was found guilty of the crime back in May and will hear her sentence today. She faces a possible 30 year prison sentence for her crime of plotting to have her husband killed.
Dippolito got caught in the act of setting up to have her husband murdered after the man she tried to hire to kill her husband reported her to police. Police setup a sting, catching Dahlia Dippolito on tape saying she was 5000% sure she wanted her husband dead; then again getting her on tape as they executed a plan to make her think the hitman she’d hired, an undercover police officer, had carried out the execution. Police showed up at her residence to inform her that her husband had been killed though Mike Dippolito was alive and well and in on the plan with police. Dahlia Dippolito reacted to the news with tears but later discovered her husband had not been killed and she had been betrayed by her hired hitman.
In a desperate move her attorney’s tried to argue at her trial back in May that the whole thing had been an elaborate scheme setup by Mike Dippolito who had aspirations of becoming a reality TV star. The jury did not buy into the reality TV defense.
Dahlia Dippolito’s attorneys tried twice since the guilty verdict was rendered to get a new trial for their client. They claimed Dippolito had not received a fair trial; but their efforts were in vain.
